Friday 5th June 2026 marks a significant milestone for P. C. Coaches as we celebrate three years of operating Service 50 – the route that connects Lincoln, Wragby, Louth and Mablethorpe, linking City, County & Coast.
When we took over the route in June 2023, our goal was simple: to protect an important transport link and provide local communities with a reliable bus service they could depend on. Three years later, Service 50 has become one of Lincolnshire's most important bus corridors, carrying thousands of passengers each month between work, education, shopping, healthcare and leisure destinations.
The third anniversary also marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the route, with two brand-new Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double-deck buses entering service on Friday 5th June. Representing an investment of nearly £600,000, the new vehicles are the largest single investment in new buses ever made by an independent bus operator in Lincolnshire, demonstrating P. C. Coaches' long-term commitment to improving local bus services and investing in the future of public transport across the county.

Over the past three years, we have continually invested in the route, introducing timetable improvements, additional journey opportunities and enhancing the overall customer experience. The arrival of the new buses is another major step forward and will provide customers with increased comfort, reliability and capacity for years to come.
As an employee-owned business, we understand the importance of local transport. Service 50 does more than connect places; it connects people. Whether travelling to Lincoln for work, visiting the market town of Louth, heading to the coast at Mablethorpe, or accessing essential services along the route, Service 50 plays a vital role in everyday life across Lincolnshire.
Everyone at P. C. Coaches would like to thank the thousands of customers who have travelled with us over the last three years and helped make Service 50 the success it is today.
More Improvements Coming This Summer
The celebrations do not stop with the arrival of our new double-deck buses.
From Monday 27th July 2026, Service 50 will benefit from a further package of enhancements designed to make travelling between Lincoln, Wragby, Louth and Mablethorpe even easier and more convenient.
The revised timetable will introduce earlier morning and later evening journeys, providing greater flexibility for commuters, students, shoppers and leisure travellers. Customers will also benefit from additional through journeys between Lincoln and Mablethorpe, reducing the need to change onto connecting services and creating a more seamless journey between the city and the coast.
The improvements form part of our ongoing commitment to developing Service 50 and ensuring it continues to meet the needs of the communities it serves.
Here's to the next chapter of Service 50 as we continue connecting City, County & Coast.

Buses will stop at Lincoln Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) on a new, dedicated route as part of a two-month trial to help improve access to the NHS facility via public transport.
From Monday 1 June 2026, buses will operate every 30 minutes between Lincoln Central Bus Station and Lincoln CDC, via St Marks Street, from 8.45am to 3.15pm, Monday to Friday.
A temporary bus stop will be in place on Poplar Avenue, near to the CDC, meaning pedestrians will only have a short walk through to the building.
The two-month trial will also include use of an electric bus for two weeks during July, which will be the first electric bus to be used on public routes in the city.
Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group Chief Executive, Professor Karen Dunderdale, said: “Lincoln Community Diagnostic Centre supports up to 60,000 patients each year and we’re doing everything that we can to make it as accessible as possible for everyone.
“While dedicated, free car parking remains available on site, we recognise that not everyone has the privilege and access to their own vehicles. Discussions relating to public transport links have been taking place since before the facility opened and we’ve also been supported by patient feedback, which has described the challenges of the nearest bus stop being approximately half a mile away for those with limited mobility or who are unwell.
“This two-month trial allows opportunity to explore if this additional bus service would be viable longer-term, while offering a more sustainable and convenient public transport route to our services.”
The buses on the dedicated ‘Medilinc’ ML1 service will be operated by PC Coaches of Lincoln.
PC Coaches of Lincoln Managing Director Stephen Bryce said: “Working in partnership with Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group offers us the opportunity to directly support the community and improve access to local services. Our employee-owned structure allows us to focus on delivering long-term benefits for both passengers and the wider community, and we are hoping to develop the MediLinc service so that it can continue in the longer term, with a view to extending the hours and days of operation.
“This service removes many of the barriers faced by people using the CDC, especially those with mobility issues. The pilot route makes access to Lincoln CDC easier for patients, reduces journey times, and enables convenient connections to other regional bus and rail services. Passengers can pay using cash or contactless payments, and concessionary bus passes are also accepted.
“As we look for ways to develop the service, we are also looking to work with other employers on Lincoln Science and Innovation Park to help reduce their carbon footprint and strengthen the long-term viability of the MediLinc service.”
The trial bus service has been set up with support from Lincoln MP Hamish Falconer MP, who helped to link members of the CDC team with PC Coaches.
He said: "Lincoln Community Diagnostic Centre is delivering vital services for thousands of local people, so improving access is incredibly important.
“A number of constituents raised with me how difficult it could be to reach the site without a car, particularly for older residents and those with mobility issues. I spoke to Stephen Bryce at PC Coaches about the problem, and I’m really pleased we’ve been able to help bring partners together to get this new shuttle service up and running.
“This pilot will make it easier for patients, visitors and staff to access the CDC, while also trialling Lincoln’s first electric bus on a public route. It’s a great example of what can happen when local organisations work together to solve practical problems for residents."
Usage of the service will be evaluated throughout the two-month trial period to determine whether it would be viable longer term.

Back on the Road After Dark: Mablethorpe’s 59E Evening Bus Returns with a Buzz

Residents and holiday makers in Mablethorpe are celebrating the long-awaited return of the 59E evening bus service, bringing a major boost to the town’s connectivity and community life.
Operated by P C Coaches of Lincoln, the service resumed on Friday 10th April and will now run every Friday and Saturday evening until Saturday 31st October 2026. The route links Mablethorpe Town Centre with North End, Trusthorpe, and Sutton on Sea, restoring a vital transport connection after months without evening services.
Importantly, the 59E is being run on a fully commercial basis by P C Coaches, with no financial support from the local authority—making public use of the service essential to its long-term success.
Beyond convenience, the return of the 59E is being hailed as a much-needed boost for the area’s night-time economy. With few transport options previously available, many residents and visitors were discouraged from going out in the evenings, impacting pubs, restaurants, and other local venues.
“I work late shifts, and getting home was a real struggle,” said Amanda from Sutton on Sea. “Taxis are expensive, hard to come by, and sometimes just not available at all. Having the 59E back means I can actually rely on getting home without spending a fortune.”
The lack of reliable taxi services—and the high cost when they are available—has been a growing issue across Mablethorpe and nearby villages. On busy weekends in particular, fares could quickly add up, with some journeys costing more than an entire evening out. As a result, many people chose to stay home rather than face the uncertainty and expense.
Local businesses believe the bus service could help turn things around.
“This is exactly what the town needed,” said Mo the proprietor of Mo's Indian Cuisine on Victoria Road “People now have a safe, affordable way to travel between villages in the evening. It gives them confidence to come out, stay longer, and support local places.”
Community leaders have also welcomed the return, praising the operator’s commitment. “This is a great example of what can be achieved when communities and operators work together,” one councillor said. “The fact this service is being run commercially shows real confidence in the area, and it’s up to all of us to support it.”
As the buses once again roll along the coast after dark, the 59E is being seen as more than just a transport service—it’s a catalyst for reviving Mablethorpe’s evening economy and bringing communities back together.

P C Coaches Becomes Latest Bus & Coach Operator to Transition to Employee Ownership
P C Coaches of Lincoln Ltd, Lincolnshire & Humberside’s largest independently owned bus and coach operator, has become the latest company in the UK transport sector to transition to employee ownership through the establishment of an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).
In doing so, P C Coaches joins a growing number of respected operators adopting the EOT model, including Alfa Travel, Stephensons of Essex, and Berrys Coaches, reflecting a broader shift within the industry toward long-term, independent ownership structures.
Founded in 1978 by Peter C Smith with just one coach, the company has grown over nearly five decades into a regional transport leader, now operating a fleet of 125 vehicles from four depots in Lincoln, Louth, Horncastle and Grimsby. The move to employee ownership secures the long-term future of the business while placing ownership in the hands of the employees who have helped build it.
Although traditionally a coach operator, the company has recently expanded its presence in the local bus market. It now operates a mix of commercial and contracted services and is an active member of Lincolnshire County Council’s Enhanced Partnership, as well as a founding partner of the Transport for Greater Lincolnshire Partnership and are members of ALBUM and the CPT.
Pete Smith will remain actively involved in the business as Chair of the Trustees of the Employee Ownership Trust, providing continuity of leadership and safeguarding the company’s values and long-term vision.
“From starting with a single coach in 1978 to becoming the region’s largest independent operator, this journey has only been possible because of the dedication and professionalism of our team,” said Pete Smith. “Moving to an Employee Ownership Trust is a natural next step. It protects the independence of the company, preserves our values, and ensures the business remains in safe hands for the future.”
Stephen Bryce, Managing Director, added: “This is an exciting next step for our company. Employee ownership strengthens our commitment to long-term growth, operational excellence and continued investment in our fleet and our people. It gives everyone within the business a shared stake in our future success.”
The transition will not affect day-to-day operations, management, or customer service. Schools, local authorities, corporate clients, private hire customers and community groups can expect the same dependable service and high standards that have defined P C Coaches of Lincoln Ltd for decades.
Under the EOT structure, a Trust established for the benefit of all current and future employees will hold a controlling interest in the company, ensuring long-term stability, independence and sustained regional investment.
