MONDAY Outward journey to Harrogate with time at leisure before continuing on to our hotel.
TUESDAY After breakfast we journey to the popular market town of Ambleside, for some time to explore, before continuing on to Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria’s most popular destination on the banks of Lake Windermere. Perhaps take a lake cruise (at own expense, and timings permitting).
WEDNESDAY The Mountain Goat minibuses take us on our high adventure reaching parts of the Lake District inaccessible by coach. We take in the Wrynose and Hardknott passes, the steepest in England, before descending to lovely Eskdale, where we take a break for lunch (at own expense). From here we continue to the 14th century castle of Muncaster, where we have entry included to the magnificent gardens, and the Hawk and Owl centre (castle admission not included). Following this, we enjoy a journey on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway through stunning Lake District scenery, alighting at Irton Road. We return to the hotel via Coniston Fells and Coniston Water bringing to an end this classic day of exploration.
THURSDAY This morning we travel alongside Ullswater to Keswick, capital of the Northern Lakes, where today is market day. After some time at leisure here, we continue alongside Thirlmere and visit Grasmere - be sure to purchase some of the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread, or perhaps visit William Wordsworth’s grave.
FRIDAY We depart the hotel and travel into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales to visit the Wensleydale Creamery, an extraordinary place to visit, full of history, heritage and cheese! We continue on to the historic town of Ripon for a break, before commencing our journey home.
