WEDNESDAY We journey to the bustling and vibrant market town of Pickering, where we have time at leisure to explore. From here, we board the North York Moors Railway – sit back, relax and enjoy a nostalgic ride through the enchanting countryside before alighting at Whitby and continuing to the hotel in time for dinner.
THURSDAY Our first stop is a visit to Goathland, well known from the television series ‘Heartbeat’. The heritage train station in this bracing moorland village also served as ‘Hogsmeade’ station from the early Harry Potter films. We then make the short transfer to Whitby, for a visit to The Endeavour Experience, the only life size replica of Captain Cook’s HM Bark Endeavour in the northern hemisphere. A fish and chip lunch, including tea, bread and butter will be included on board. (Please note that access is via gangplank and steps connecting each deck.) Enjoy time at leisure in Whitby before we return to the hotel.
FRIDAY Today we visit Thorp Perrow Arboretum, in the Yorkshire Dales. Home to some of the largest and rarest trees and shrubs in the country, this is widely regarded as the most important arboretum in the North of England. Enjoy the dazzling array of colour as you meander through the trails. In addition, there is also the birds of prey and mammal centre to visit. (Sensible, weather appropriate footwear is recommended.) From here we continue our journey home.
