Located in the heart of Darlington, the hotel is arguably one of the town’s most iconic buildings dating back to Victorian times, and was fully refurbished in 2012. Facilities include King’s Grill & bar; and WiFi. Hotel has a lift.
FRIDAY Outward journey to Knaresborough, with its warren of medieval streets and stone staircases that weave their way up and down the hill. The town centre is perched on the cliffs above the River Nidd and the imposing railway viaduct stretches across the Nidd Gorge. After a break here we continue to the hotel, for our two night stay.
SATURDAY A day at leisure in Darlington, where today is market day. Perhaps take a stroll around Darlington's Victorian South Park, a 91-acre haven in the heart of the market town. We enjoy an early dinner at the hotel, prior to the highlight of our break, as we transfer to Bishop Auckland where, once darkness has fallen, and against the backdrop of Auckland Castle, the 90-minute show takes place. On a landscaped open air space equivalent to five football pitches with a full size lake at its centre, Kynren immerses you in 2,000 years of history, with a movie-like, fast paced and action packed journey from Roman times to the Second World War. As the story unfolds you’ll be treated to expert choreography, combat, dance and dazzling pyrotechnics. We return to the hotel late evening.
NB: Warm clothing is recommended for this outdoor event, and due to its location there will be some walking involved to access the site, and seating is tiered therefore may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.
SUNDAY We depart the hotel and commence our homeward journey, taking a break en route in the historic town of Ripon, with its imposing Gothic cathedral.
