Back on the Road After Dark: Mablethorpe’s 59E Evening Bus Returns with a Buzz
Residents and holiday makers in Mablethorpe are celebrating the long-awaited return of the 59E evening bus service, bringing a major boost to the town’s connectivity and community life.
Operated by P C Coaches of Lincoln, the service resumed on Friday 10th April and will now run every Friday and Saturday evening until Saturday 31st October 2026. The route links Mablethorpe Town Centre with North End, Trusthorpe, and Sutton on Sea, restoring a vital transport connection after months without evening services.
Importantly, the 59E is being run on a fully commercial basis by P C Coaches, with no financial support from the local authority—making public use of the service essential to its long-term success.
Beyond convenience, the return of the 59E is being hailed as a much-needed boost for the area’s night-time economy. With few transport options previously available, many residents and visitors were discouraged from going out in the evenings, impacting pubs, restaurants, and other local venues.
“I work late shifts, and getting home was a real struggle,” said Amanda from Sutton on Sea. “Taxis are expensive, hard to come by, and sometimes just not available at all. Having the 59E back means I can actually rely on getting home without spending a fortune.”
The lack of reliable taxi services—and the high cost when they are available—has been a growing issue across Mablethorpe and nearby villages. On busy weekends in particular, fares could quickly add up, with some journeys costing more than an entire evening out. As a result, many people chose to stay home rather than face the uncertainty and expense.
Local businesses believe the bus service could help turn things around.
“This is exactly what the town needed,” said Mo the proprietor of Mo's Indian Cuisine on Victoria Road “People now have a safe, affordable way to travel between villages in the evening. It gives them confidence to come out, stay longer, and support local places.”
Community leaders have also welcomed the return, praising the operator’s commitment. “This is a great example of what can be achieved when communities and operators work together,” one councillor said. “The fact this service is being run commercially shows real confidence in the area, and it’s up to all of us to support it.”
As the buses once again roll along the coast after dark, the 59E is being seen as more than just a transport service—it’s a catalyst for reviving Mablethorpe’s evening economy and bringing communities back together.
