Tour of Britain Comes to Lincolnshire!
Lincolnshire will welcome some of the world's leading professional cyclists this week as the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men 2026 gets underway in our county.
The opening two stages take place across Lincolnshire on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd September, bringing elite cycle racing through many of the communities served by P. C. Coaches.
With road closures and rolling road blocks required for the event, some of our services will need to operate differently while the race is taking place.
Wednesday 2nd September – Lincoln
Stage One starts and finishes in Lincoln, taking riders through the Lincolnshire countryside before returning to the city for the finish.
A number of roads in and around Lincoln will be closed during the event, which will affect several of our services.
Walk & Ride – Revised Route
The Walk & Ride will be unable to operate its usual route due to road closures in the Cathedral Quarter and surrounding areas.
The service will not be able to serve:
Minster Yard • Church Lane • Bailgate • Westgate • Union Road • Spring Hill • Hungate
Instead, the Walk & Ride will operate a revised circular route serving:
Lincoln Central Station → Wigford Way → Silver Street → Lindum Hill → Pottergate → Northgate → Nettleham Road → Lea Road → Wragby Road → Lindum Hill → Lincoln Central Station
Customers who normally use stops on the affected section of the route should use the nearest available alternative stop.
Service 44 – Revised Route
Service 44 will be unable to serve Church Lane, Newport or Broadway while the road closures are in place.
During this period, buses will operate along Nettleham Road in both directions.
Customers should use alternative stops on Nettleham Road where possible.
Service 77 – Cancelled Journeys
Due to the road closures, the following Service 77 journeys from Lincoln Central Bus Station will not operate on Wednesday 2 September:
- 13:35 from Lincoln Central
- 14:35 from Lincoln Central
All other Service 77 journeys are currently planned to operate, although delays may occur as the race and rolling road closures move through the area.
Thursday 3rd September – Boston to Skegness
The action moves east on Thursday as Stage Two starts in Boston before travelling across Lincolnshire towards the coast and the finish in Skegness.
The race passes through areas including Coningsby, Woodhall Spa, Horncastle, Wragby, Binbrook, Louth, Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea – many of which are served by the P. C. Coaches network.
Customers should therefore be prepared for temporary delays, diversions and disruption as rolling road closures move through the county.
Please Allow Extra Time
We'll be doing everything we can to keep Lincolnshire moving throughout both days. However, with rolling road closures and large numbers of visitors expected, some delays will unfortunately be unavoidable.
